The term “hosting” does not describe a single service, but a number of services which provide a variety of functions to a domain. Having a site and emails, for instance, are two individual services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so most people think of them as one single service. In reality, each and every domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each particular service - the former is a numeric IP address, which defines where the website for the domain name is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that manages the emails for the domain address. For example, an A record is 123.123.123.123 and an MX record can be mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a website or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain address has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the e-mail will then be directed to the correct server. The idea behind employing separate records is that the two services employ different web protocols and you could have your website hosted by one company and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting from us, you are going to be able to view, create and change any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. As long as a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify specific records through our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or emails pointed to any other company if you wish to use only one of our services. Our state-of-the-art tool is going to permit you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain in any way. If you choose to use the email services of a different service provider and they want you to set up more than two MX records, you can easily do this with only a few clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can even set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for each of your domains or subdomains is really easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan through us. The accounts are handled via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you can click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as simple as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not experience any difficulties if you want to direct your site or e-mails to some other provider while keeping the second service with our company. When needed, you could also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
